The funeral for Dennis Anderson, of Donnelly, will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly, with Reverend Judy Gelinske officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Burial will be at the Scandia East "Bell" Cemetery, near Cyrus, on Tuesday at 1:15 p.m.
Dennis Anderson, son of Oscar and Sigrid (Paulson) Anderson was born on September 21, 1932 in Roseglen, North Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roseglen. Dennis attended elementary school in Roseglen and stayed in a boarding home in Ryder, North Dakota to attend high school, graduating in 1950. After his schooling, he moved with his family to Cyrus, Minnesota. Dennis was united in marriage to Betty Jean Skogstad on October 10, 1953 in Cyrus; through this union three children were born: Lonnie, Mary and Jill. The couple spent their summers farming in Roseglen and winters in Cyrus, where Dennis worked as a custodian at the public school and also worked at the local Red Owl grocery store. He also worked for the State Bank of Cyrus and as an office manager at the Morris Co-op, until 1972, when he began working for Leo Perreault as an auditor. Betty died on September 9, 1986. Dennis married Virginia Hagen in 1987, through this union he enjoyed his time with his step-children, Laurie and Randy and their families. In 2006, Dennis moved to Donnelly, before entering the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck in July of 2012.
Dennis was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus and St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly. He enjoyed camping with his family in the early years of life and spent many winters in Alamogordo, New Mexico in his later years. Dennis loved farming, collecting cars, being around people and country music. He was known for playing his guitar and singing. He will be remembered for his patience, sense of humor and his songs; but most of all he will be remembered as being a great father and grandfather.
Dennis died on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. He was 80 years old.
He is survived by one son, Lonnie (Pat) Anderson, Morris, MN; two daughters, Mary (Pete) Royer, Litchfield, MN and Jill (Brett) Johnson, Elk River, MN; two sisters, Bernice Thompson, Minneapolis, MN and Phyllis Townsend, Rapid City, SD; 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, two brothers, Merle and Verdell and two sisters, Mavis Berg and LaVonne Kerzman.
