The funeral for Ada D. Koons, of Brainerd, Minnesota, formerly of Morris will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Kristin Oltmann of First Lutheran Church of Brainerd officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.
Ada Dorothy Koons, daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Sangel) Koons was born on November 25, 1918 at Jackson County, Minnesota. She graduated from West Central School of Agriculture at Morris in 1942. After her schooling, Ada worked as a nurse's assistant in Staples. She trained to become an LPN, and began working as a nurse at the St. Joseph Hospital at Brainerd. Later in her career, Ada worked for the Kingwood Nursing Home and Bethany Nursing Home in Brainerd. After retiring in 1983, Ada continued to live in her home at Brainerd. In 2007, she became a resident of the Woodland Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Ada was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Brainerd. She enjoyed reading and making rugs with a rug loom she purchased from her sister Ann. Ada loved to care for her home and yard.
Ada died on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Woodland Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd, having reached the age of 93.
She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Lawrence, Willmar, MN and Gladys Traphagan, Cokato, MN; one sister-in-law, Elsie Koons, Gallitan, TN; one brother-in-law, Robert Scribner, Janesville, MN and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Clara Henricks, Anna Scribner, Mabel Riedel, Marion Scribner and Hazel Koons; six brothers, Alvin, John, Edward, George, Harvey and infant Carl Koons.
