Adeline Dahl

July 2, 1914 — January 18, 2010

Adeline Eva Aslakson Nelson Dahl was 95 years young at the time of her death. She was a current resident of Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria , Minnesota . She passed away surrounded by family at Douglas County Hospital on January 18, 2010.





Adeline was born on July 2 nd, 1914 in New Prairie Township to Alfred Aslakson and Ida Anderson Aslakson. She was one of three daughters born to Alfred and Ida. Her sisters were Delores Aslakson Otteson (Magnus) and Muriel Aslakson Hoium (Martin). She was babtized at St. John?s Evangelical Church in New Prairie Township and was confirmed into faith in the Norwegian Language on 10/06/29 at West Zion Lutheran Church south of Starbuck. Adeline?s grandparents all emigrated from Norway .





Adeline graduated from the 8 th grade at District 36 on April 8, 1930. As she graduated, the country entered into a depression and she went to work as a waitress to support her family. Then came World War 2 started. She went to work in the munitions plant and lived in NE Minneapolis with her sister Delores. She was very proud of her work to serve her country while performing a security function observing for possible sabotage in the plant. She worked for a short time as a sales clerk at JC Penneys in Minneapolis and then later in life as a sales clerk for a shoe store in Morris , MN . She was honored to receive her high school diploma from the Minnewaska Area School District on July 23, 2009. Her primary occupation was a loving wife, homemaker and mother. She enjoyed quilting; baking, cooking and canning; dancing, gardening, bowling and playing games/ cards.





Adeline married Marvin O. Nelson on 9/11/43 living briefly in Alexandria and then moving back to the Starbuck area where they remained for most of their adult lives. Adeline and Marvin had one daughter, Marcia Nelson who has one son, Justin Nelson. Marvin passed away at home on 11/08/84. Adeline married Leo Dahl on 12/15/85. Leo was a good friend of the family who became family. They lived in Starbuck, Lowry and finally in Alexandria where he passed away at Knute Nelson Home on 10/05/06.





Adeline is survived by her daughter, Marcia Nelson, and grandson, Justin of Burnsville, Minnesota; step-daughter Barbara (Dahl) Moir of Oregon and step grandchildren, Amee, Christopher, Patrick and Sheryl of California and Oregon; Sister-in-law, Esther Schultz of Alexandria; and nieces/nephews; Dewayne, Sandra, Wanda, Darlene, Linda, Steve, Dave, Allen, Dick, Dave, Marlene, Alycia and Carl; cousins, friends and her dog, Jeffie.





Adeline will be joining those who left before her: Spouses: Marvin Nelson and Leo Dahl; parents: Alfred and Ida Aslakson; Sisters: Muriel (Aslakson) Hoium; Delores (Aslakson) Otteson and many other friends and relatives.





Serving as pallbearers for the service are: Justin Nelson, Dewayne Hoium, Steve Otteson, Jack Anderson, Mike Orman and Keith Kezar. Honorary pallbearers are: Dave Nelson, Allen Nelson, Richard Nelson, Dave Schultz, Marlene Thompson, Darlene Berg, Wanda Borgwardt, Sandra Carter, Linda Orman and Alycia Wendt. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
