Adolph Long

The funeral for Adolph John Long, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Jack Baumgarn officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home, in Morris, and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Adolph John Long, son of William and Christina (Drewes) Long was born on June 8, 1917 at LaMoure, North Dakota. He was baptized on June 8, 1917 and confirmed July 16, 1944 at the Trinity English Lutheran Church in LaMoure. After attending country school near LaMoure, he farmed in the area. Adolph then moved to California, where he worked for Consolidated Aircraft before returning to North Dakota and meeting Virginia Hoefs. Adolph and Virginia were united in marriage on June 27, 1943 near Lidgerwood, North Dakota. The couple moved to California, where Adolph worked on Submarines, before returning to the LaMoure area and farming for 15 years. In 1959, Adolph and Virginia moved to Herman, Minnesota and purchased a farm, where they continued to live until the time of their retirement. Retiring in 1985, the couple moved to Morris. Adolph entered the West Wind Village in March of 2007.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Adolph enjoyed gardening and mechanics. He will be most remembered for being a kind, patient, and understanding man, who loved being around his children and grandchildren; shown by the twinkle in his eye. A grandkid never left Adolph's home without being held or hugged.

Adolph died on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the West Wind Village in Morris. He was 94 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, Morris; seven children, Shirley (Ernie) Frarck, Atwater, Charles (Karen) Long, Herman, Clarine (Stan) Meyer, Annandale, Joyce (Gary) Harding, Watertown, Sherman (Sherry) Long, Hoffman, Clyde (Brenda) Long, Herman, and Barbara (Bob) Wentzel, Eden Prairie; two brothers, Albert (Grace) Long, Fergus Falls, and Edward (Joan) Long, Florence, OR; nineteen grandchildren: Robert (Amy) Carter, Annette (Fred) Williamson, Curtis (Jennifer) Frarck, Janel (Steve) Statz, Carla (Adam) Ritter, Jennifer Meyer, Torri (Brad) Erickson, Susan Harding, Anna Harding, HollyJo (Shane) Wevley, Matthew (Liza) Long, Nathan Long, Jacob Long, Braeden Long, Keaton Long, Ryanne Long, Danielle Stratmann, Justin Wentzel and Kayla Wentzel; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Adolph was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Diane Carter, a son-in-law, Robert Carter Sr., one sister, Clara Lind, and two brothers, Jerome Long and Kenneth Long.
