The funeral service for Alan Hendrickson of Morris, MN will be held Monday, April 24, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Pastor Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Alan will be buried at the West Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery following the fellowship at Faith Lutheran Church.

Alan Hendrickson, son of Tilford and Ida (Berg) Hendrickson, was born December 19, 1934, in Starbuck, MN. He was raised on the family farm in rural Hancock and was baptized and confirmed at West Zion Lutheran Church.

He attended school at District 29—a one-room school house across the road from the family's home—through 8th grade and graduated from Hancock High School in 1952. In 1957, he graduated from Moorhead State with a teaching degree in English. He married Dolora Moline of Benson on September 2, 1956. His teaching took Alan and Dolora to Forman, ND; Herman, MN; and Appleton, MN; before the couple and their five children made their home in Morris in 1966. In that same year, the family became members of Faith Lutheran Church. In all aspects, Morris has been a special place of residence for the Hendrickson family.

Alan was a great husband, brother, father, grandpa, and friend. He was a passionate teacher for 28 years and wrestling coach for 24 years, caring for the success of each individual on and off the mat. One of his opening statements to each class as a high school English teacher was, "Treat others how you want to be treated." Because he lived by this mantra he was highly respected by those who knew him. He was a Charter Member of the Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame and in 2006 was inducted into the Minnesota Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He had an amazing memory for his wrestlers and could recount the specifics of an individual's wrestling matches many years later. Alan was also a 30-year member of the Morris Lion's Club. His favorite place to spend time was at "the land" on Moose Lake in Pennington, MN. While there he loved sitting by the campfire and playing cards into the wee hours of the morning with Dolora and their children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing.

Alan entered his heavenly home on April 20, 2017 at the age of 82. He passed away in his sleep at home after a battle with cancer.

Alan will be dearly missed by his wife Dolora; children: JoAnn (Kevin) Rocheleau of St. Joseph, Jody (Dave) Southerling of Ham Lake, John (Jeanne) Hendrickson of Esko, Michael (Allison) Hendrickson of Little Falls, and Mark (Dawn) Hendrickson of Chaska; 13 grandchildren: Aaron (Kathleen), Bryan, Christopher, Dustin, Samantha (Aaron), Megan (Tom), Rachel, Joe, Mattia, Kendal, Morgan, Seth, and Kayla; 3 great-grandchildren: Mason, Harper, and Kiara; brother Ralph (Irma) Hendrickson of Hancock; sisters-in-law: Joyce Moline of Sartell, MN and Virginia Goulet of Fresno, CA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Hendrickson.

The family thanks you for all the thoughts, prayers, and visits. A special thanks to Karen Aslakson and other nursing staff at the Stevens Community Medical Center; Dr. Wade Swenson and Hospice nurse Vivian Heltemes and the rest of the Hospice team who provided Alan with such compassionate care.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
