Albert Nelson

Albert Erwyn "Ervy" Nelson, son of Albert and Esther (Ostlund) Nelson, was born March 1, 1921 in Graceville, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Chokio. Ervy grew up in Chokio, where he began his schooling and graduated in 1940 from the Chokio High School. He continued his education at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, studying business. On September 4, 1942, Ervy enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone for 2 A½ years, serving in WWII as Yeoman 2nd Class. He received an honorable discharge on September 19, 1945. On November 19, 1943, he was united in marriage to Maxine Winter in Minneapolis. Following their marriage, the couple lived a short time in New York City, they then moved to Chokio, where they owned and operated Nelson's Grocery Store. Ervy and Macky retired in 1991. They have continued to live in Chokio since that time.



Ervy was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, where he served on the church board. He was also a member of the Chokio Legion and the Chokio School Board. He enjoyed traveling, watching any sports on TV and telling jokes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at the cabin on Lake Minnewaska



Ervy died on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.



He is survived by his wife: Maxine Nelson of Chokio; five children: Nancy (Dean) Boldenow of Chokio, Jon (Pat) Nelson of N. Mankato, Christine (James) Deike of Madison Lake, Beth (Robert) Moore of Glenwood and Jay (Lynn) Nelson of Morris; 12 grandchildren: Michael Boldenow, Gregory Boldenow, Derek Nelson, Cameron Nelson, Anna Deike, Elizabeth Noone, Amy Deike, Alison Moore, Jackson Moore, Brittany Nelson, Jenna Nelson and Tate Nelson and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Viola Nelson and two brothers: Alton "Bud" and Oliver Nelson.



Julene Amborn will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
