Memorial services for Albert Schmidt of Morris, MN will be held Friday, December 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Father Todd Schneider will be officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Morris, MN. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.
Albert Jerome Schmidt, son of Henry and Mary (Van Kempen) Schmidt was born August 10, 1928 in Hodges Township near Morris, MN. Albert grew up on his family's farm and attended country school. Following his schooling, Albert worked on the farm and also worked as a mechanic. In 1951, he joined the United States Army, where he worked as a mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1953. Albert was united in marriage to Beverly Vig on June 30, 1951 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. The family made their home in Morris, where Albert worked for the State Highway Department for 30 years. After his retirement, he continued to live in Morris.
Albert was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the Morris American Legion. He enjoyed fox hunting and going to coffee with friends. His favorite time was spent flying his airplane.
Albert passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota having lived to reach the age of 85 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bev Schmidt of Morris; three sons, Doug (Cher) Schmidt of Foley, Dave Schmidt (friend: Rene Sprangel) of Morris and Dwain (Kari) Schmidt of Morris; three daughters, Deb Caswell (friend: Michael Tkadlec) of Oakdale, DeAnn (Brian) Rasbold of Broken Arrow, OK and Donna (Mark) Flesland of Alexandria; three brothers, Fritz (Madelyn) Schmidt of Morris, Henry (Lucille) Schmidt of Mesa, AZ and Jerry (Sylvia) Schmidt of Morris; two sisters, Rose (Manley) Anderson of Morris and Margaret (Douglas) Garberick of El Cajon, CA; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Dale; three brothers, Eugene (Mary) Schmidt, Charles (Irene) Schmidt and John Schmidt and three sisters: Veronica Schmidt, Kathryn (Melvin) Sundquist and Helen (Tom) Lyons.
