Alfred Jergenson

Alfred Garfield Jergenson, son of George and Laura (Awsumb) Jergenson, was born July 30, 1912 on the family farm near Donnelly , Minnesota . He was baptized on September 1, 1912, and later confirmed on October 17, 1926 at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church , both by Reverend Andrew Olson. Alfred began his schooling at school district #56, where he graduated from the 8 th grade. He then worked with his dad on the family farm for two years before attending the West Central School of Agriculture for four years. He then returned to farming with his dad, which he continued until taking a job with the Donnelly Creamery. Alfred then attended dairy school at the University of St. Paul for two months to become a buttermaker, which he achieved about five years after graduating from high school. On May 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Leo at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman , Minnesota . The couple made their home in the Donnelly area, where Alfred continued working as a buttermaker for the Donnelly Creamery until 1946. At that time, Alfred started mink farming, which he continued to do for the next 29 years. In 1948, they purchased a farm in Framnas Township near Morris, where he operated his mink farm until retiring in 1975. They continued to live on the farm and help out until moving to Morris in November 2005. Alfred entered the West Wind Village in December 2006, where he lived until the time of his death.





Some of Alfred’s favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and bowling. He had also been active in 4-H, Sons of Norway, Kongsvinger Men’s Club and the Minnesota Fur Breeder’s Association. He had also been a life-long member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church .





Alfred died on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 96 years.





He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Jergenson of Morris; three children: Eunice (David) Johnson of St. Cloud, Robert E. (Barb) Jergenson of Morris and Ardell (Jerry) Anderson of Morris; seven grandchildren: Lori (John) Fischer, Lisa (Scott) Holland, Rob (Peg) Jergenson, Tim (Jodi) Jergenson, Corey (Jerri) Jergenson, Heidi (Warren) Logeais and Jeff (Ali) Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren and six siblings: Conrad (Marge) Jergenson of Minneapolis, Ruth Strand of Morris, David (Julette) Jergenson of Cyrus, Grace Mills of Waconia, Palma Johnson of Upsala and Arnold (JoAnn) Jergenson of Silverdale, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lawrence, Arden and Ruben and one sister: Mabel Jergenson.
