Alfred William Pearson, son of Otto and Edith (Johnson) Pearson, was born January 10, 1924 in rural Pope County, Minnesota. He was baptized on May 18, 1924 by Reverend Bernhardt Habel and confirmed on July 3, 1938 by Reverend Arnold Olson at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Hancock. He grew up in the Hancock area and attended country school in Pope County. On June 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Beatrice Hennessy by Reverend Dr. Dickson at the Benson Congregational Church. Alfred worked for two years at the Standard Lumber Company in Benson, Minnesota. Farming had always been a big part of his life from the time he was a teenager. He spent his remaining years farming in the Hancock area.
Alfred was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Hancock. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and going on his weekly business trips.
Alfred died on Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.
He is survived by his wife: Beatrice Pearson of Hancock; one daughter: Janice (David) Raths of Hancock; one son: William (Susan) Pearson of Maple Grove; four grandchildren: Tamara (Tim) Forby of Bloomington, Scott (Jaclyn) Raths of Donnelly, Heather (Cassie) Knaby of Kensington and Benjamin Pearson of Maple Grove; five great-grandchildren: Thomas and Andrew Forby of Bloomington and Tristan, Austin and Amaya Raths of Donnelly; one brother: Harold (Beverly) Pearson of Glenwood and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Mrs. Gladys Flannigan.
Pallbearers for the service are: Chuck Nelson, Barry Nelson, Donald Cary, Alvin Nissen, Edgar Ver Steeg and Ed Kenyon. Honorary pallbearers are Alfred’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sandi Pahl will serve as organist for the service with Scott Raths serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
