Alice Fuchs

Alice Luella Meyer, daughter of William and Inez (Evert) Meyer, was born August 29, 1912. She was baptized on January 2, 1931 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. On January 7, 1931, she was united in marriage to William Joseph Fuchs. Following their marriage, the couple lived with William’s parents until 1934, when they rented the George Dietrich farm south-west of Morris. On October 21, 1934, Alice and William had a son, John William Fuchs. On March 15, 1939, the family bought a farm south of Morris, which they rented to Billy’s sister and brother-in-law, Richard and Rose Squier. On March 15, 1946, they traded places with the Squiers and began living on the farm south of Morris. Following the war, Billy bought and traded horses and he said when Alice was along and she walked away from deal, he had better walk away too, because if he didn’t, he for sure would lose his money. Alice and William had a diversified farm, raising cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, dogs and cats. Alice would even bottle feed the lambs, pigs and calves when needed. Alice also enjoyed cooking and baking while the field work was being done and whenever someone came to visit, she could prepare a meal in minutes. In 1965, Alice and William built a new home and Jack and his wife, Lois moved into the old house. Visiting neighbors, friends and relatives, was a special time and even when it stormed, you would find Billy and Alice walking miles across the field to Leon Marquarts farm to play cards. Alice and Bill were married 61 years, before Bill died on October 31, 1992.
Following Bill’s death, Alice continued to live on the farm, drive her car and keep up her own home until the age of 90 years. She then moved to the Grandview Apartments in Morris for a couple years before entering the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, where she has lived since that time. Alice always enjoyed being surrounded by company and appreciated the love she received from her entire family.
Alice
was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris nearly her entire life. She was also an Auxiliary member of the AmVets Post #290, the American Legion Post #29 and a supportive parent of the Red Ryders Saddle Club from origin in 1948 until it dissolved in 1961.
Alice
died on Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 96 years.
She is survived by her son: Jack (Heidi) Fuchs of Morris; three grandchildren: Edward Fuchs of Lake City, Loni Mix (fiancé: David Erbstoesser) of Ham Lake and Scott (Wendy) Fuchs of Annandale; eight great-grandchildren: Krystal and Chad Fuchs, Anthony and Cassandra Mix and Courtney, Stephen, Makayla and Jonathon Fuchs; two great-great-grandchildren: Lillian Fuchs and Paige Mix and five step-grandchildren: Tina Boyd of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve VanAnda of Seattle, WA, Sandy Turner of San Diego, CA, Steve Sickels of Silma, CA, Debbie Tardif of Selma, CA and several step-great and step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one great-granddaughter: Nichole Fuchs; her parents; one sister: Margaret Aanerud; two brothers: Jack and Harry Meyer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lena and Mike Heintzlemen and Rose and Richard Squier.
Pallbearers for the service are: Ed Fuchs, Scott Fuchs, Anthony Mix, Jim Griffith, George Kill, Tony Staebler, Jim Squier and Mark Staebler. Honorary pallbearers are Alice’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Lori Vaadeland will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
