Alice Jacobson

Alice Jacobson, daughter of August and Mary (Tegtmeier) Geffert, was born May 10, 1909 at her parent’s farm home in LeRoy Township in Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in LeRoy Township and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, Iowa. She attended country school in LeRoy Township and Tripoli Iowa High School. For several years she was employed at Pries Food Market in Sumner, Iowa. On July 20, 1935, she was united in marriage to William Jacobson. Following their marriage, the couple lived in St. Paul, MN for a short time, then they moved to Montevideo, MN, where they established the Jacobson Paint and Wallpaper Store. They owned and operated the store until 1969, when they retired. Following their retirement, they moved to their new home on South Shore Drive on Lake Minnewaska. William died the next year on May 23, 1970. Alice continued to live on the lake until 1976, when she moved to the Manor Apartments in Starbuck.




While living in Montevideo, Alice was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was active in the church library, circle and many other church activities. She was also a member of the Lioness Club and worked with the Girl Scout programs.




Since moving to Starbuck, she has been a member of Fron Lutheran Church, where she served on WELCA, Fron Bible Study Group and the serving circle. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen Club and for many years she was very active doing volunteer work at the Starbuck Nursing Home, which she loved doing very much. Alice enjoyed traveling and she especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.




Alice died on Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 99 years.




She is survived by one son: Jerome Jacobson of Indianapolis, IN; two grandsons: Jerry (Angie) Sagnes of Coon Rapids and Michael (Danielle) Sagnes of White Bear Lake; two granddaughters: Susan (Joe) Dillon of Fort Wayne IN and Brenda (David) Frisby of Fort Wayne IN; six great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; one sister: Laura (Elden) Clewell of Plainfield, IA; sister-in-law: Deloris Heinemann of Tripoli, IA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter: Jane Sagnes; her parents; three sisters and one brother.




Pallbearers for the service are: Jerry Sagnes, Michael Sagnes, Joseph Dillon, David Frisby, Brian Sagnes and Scott Sagnes. Shari Opdahl will serve as organist for the service with Vic Vatthauer serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.




In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN.
