Alice Kositzke

March 24, 1911 — January 19, 2008

Alice Helen (Johnson) Kositzke, was born March 24, 1911 in rural Appleton, Swift County, Minnesota to parents, Frederick and Ingeborg (Johnson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Long Lake Lutheran Church, rural Appleton. She began her schooling at District 30 Country School in Hegbert Township, through the 8th grade. She then attended and graduated from Appleton High School in 1932. Following her schooling, she worked at a cafAC. in Appleton until 1936.



She was united in marriage to Frederick Kositzke on June 25, 1936 at her parent's farm in rural Appleton. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for seven years before moving to Hancock, Minnesota, where they owned and operated Kositzke's Hardware for 32 years. They retired September 1, 1976 and Fred passed away a year later on August 31, 1977. Alice continued to make her home in Hancock.



Alice was active at St. John's Lutheran Church and also St. John's Lutheran Ladies Society. She was treasurer for a total of 17 years at various times and had also been secretary several times. She was very active as a civic worker, having been village treasurer for 19 years. She was a member of the Hancock Health Service since 1980; the Hancock United Fund since its organization in 1955. She was on the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of West Central Minnesota for 12 years. She has been very active in the Hancock Senior Citizen Club, having been secretary for 11 years. She was Grand Marshall at the Hancock 4th of July Celebration in 1983.



Alice died on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 96 years.



Survivors include one brother: Theodore (Verna) Johnson of Ellensburg, WA; five nieces: Clarice Maher of Appleton, Myra Mae Brown of Ash Grove, MO, Diane Johnson of Sturgis, SD, Cheryl Orvald of Kent, WA and Mary Garcia of Loveland, CO; seven grand nieces; six grand nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred in 1977; her parents; four sisters: Agnes Simonson, Frances Johnson, Ida Melin and Jordis Mueller; one brother: Clarence Johnson; one niece; one nephew and one grand niece.



Pallbearers for the service are: Kerry Berget, Joel Flaten, Gary Greiner, Reed Peterson, Rod Peterson and Alvin Smith. Phyllis Joos will serve as organist for the service with Gerald Hoffman serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
