Allen Mithun

The funeral for Allen Mithun, of Cyrus, Minnesota will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Morris, Minnesota, with Reverend Dan Belgum officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and Friday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at the Cyrus South Cemetery, near Cyrus.

Allen LeRoy Mithun, son of Edward and Gertrude (Sanvig) Mithun was born on May 21, 1942, in Cyrus, Minnesota. He was baptized at Fron Lutheran Church, in Starbuck, Minnesota and confirmed at Cyrus Lutheran Church, in Cyrus. Allen grew up in Cyrus and attended Cyrus Public School. He was united in marriage to DiAnn Marquette on April 2, 1966, at Fahlun Lutheran Church in Nelson, Minnesota; through this union, three children were born. Allen worked at the Cyrus Creamery for 13 years as a truck driver and butter maker. After the creamery closed, he began working at the Cyrus Public School, as the head custodian; a position he held for 17 years. Allen also worked 9 years as custodian for the Hancock Public School, retiring in 2004.

Allen enjoyed fixing cars, gardening, and going dancing. He also liked having coffee every morning at McDonald’s with the guys. Allen loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Allen died on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, surrounded by his family, under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice at his home in Cyrus, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 76 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years: DiAnn Mithun, Cyrus, MN; one son: Dean (Pam) Mithun, Morris, MN; two daughters: Sheila Mithun, Fargo, ND, and Sherri (Gary) Van Binsbergen, Clarkfield, MN; 5 grandchildren: Zack, Morgan, and Jayden Mithun; and Blake and Katelynn Okeson; one sister: Diane (David) Boettcher, Morris, MN; one brother: Michael (Laura) Mithun, Cyrus, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Ernest Mithun and one sister: Lila Mullins.

In Lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials are given in Allen’s name to the Knute Nelson Hospice.
