Memorial services for Allen Olson of Donnelly, MN will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, with Reverend Darrell Boe officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Allen Gene Olson, son of Harold and Myrtle (Gulbrandson) Olson, was born August 10, 1941 in Land Township in Grant County. He was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hoffman and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. Allen grew up in the Herman-Hoffman area, where he attended country school in Hoffman and Herman and continued his education at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN. Following his schooling, Allen proudly served in the Minnesota National Guard. On September 16, 1967, he was united in marriage to Joyce Jacobson at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, near Donnelly. The couple continued to live in Grant County, where they farmed and raised their children. When Allen and Joyce retired, they moved to Donnelly, where they have continued to make their home.
Allen was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman; he served on the Hoffman Creamery Board and was a former member of IOOF in Herman. Allen enjoyed reading westerns, listening to country western music, hunting, watching the MN Twins and MN Vikings. He enjoyed everything related to farming and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.
Allen died on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN. He lived to 75 years.
He is survived by his wife: Joyce Olson of Donnelly; four children: Julie (Mike) Algaard of Rogers, Scott (Stephanie) Olson of Morris, Tami (Damian) McAllister of Fargo, ND and Tim (Shannon) Olson of Albany; 12 grandchildren; siblings: Carmen Peterson of Hoffman, Elaine Kruse of Rochester, Harry “Bud” (Marilyn) Olson of Herman, Harlan (Judy) Olson of Winter Garden, FL, Jeanne (Gail) Sperr of Herman and Vernal (Janet) Olson of Hoffman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Clifford and Dorothy Jacobson; sister: Muriel (Lloyd) Christopherson; brother-in-law: Dennis Peterson and nieces: Corlys Christopherson and Carol Sylskar.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
