Alys Josephine Anderson, daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Hanson) Anderson, was born November 16, 1904 at the family farm in Scott Township, Minnesota. She grew up and began her schooling at a rural school in Scott Township. In 3rd grade, she began attending the Longfellow School in Morris, and at the age of 14 years, attended Morris High School until her graduation. After her schooling, she did office work for a transfer company for three years before continuing her education at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. She graduated from Nurses Training in 1930, and began working in various areas, where ever she felt she was needed the most. She continued working as a nurse until her marriage to Harold Douglas Nicholson on December 1, 1935 at First Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple made their home in the Appleton area, where they lived until Harold's death on April 2, 1982. Following his death, Alys made her home in Morris, most recently at the West Central Christian Home.
Alys was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Morris and was the oldest living member of the congregation. She will be greatly missed by the many friends who knew and loved her.
Alys died on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 101 years.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, June Nicholson and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Nicholson Sr.; her son, Harold Nicholson Jr.; her parents; two brothers and five sisters.
