Andrew Frederick Brevig, was the second child and only son, born to Thormod and Bertha (Schultze) Brevig at their home in Blue Mounds Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  He was raised on the family farm and was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church near their home.  Andy attended District 42 Grandview School until the 8th grade, 9th grade was at Starbuck High School, and he completed his education at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, graduating with the class of 1946.  He continued farming south of Starbuck and in September of 1953, Andy was united in marriage to Marilyn Chapman at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  In March of 1954, Andy enlisted into the United States Air Force, serving in Mississippi, Nevada, and New Mexico.  While in the military, two of their children were born, and after Andy’s honorable discharge in November of 1957, the family returned to Starbuck and welcomed three more children.  After a devastating house fire in 1967, the family moved to St. Paul, Andy began his career at Univac until his retirement in 1988, after which he delivered mail as a sub for 10+ years.  In 1983, Andy married Carol Smith Towner at the United Methodist Church in Herman, Minnesota.  They made their home near Herman, and enjoyed combining their large families as one.   Carol preceded Andy in death in 2011, Andy remained near Herman until 2020, when he moved to Starbuck, where he lived until his death.

Andy was active in the Herman American Legion, Sons of Norway, and Boy Scouts as a Leader and Scout Master.  Several of his hobbies included: gardening, bowling, throwing horseshoes, scouting, jigsaw puzzles, hunting, planting 1000’s of trees, and Sigdalslag.   He was a member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in rural Donnelly.  His faith was so important to him, and he lived a life as a faithful, church minded man.   Andy was a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor.  Most importantly, Andy cherished his large family, and he lit up when he would see his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and especially his first great-great-grandchild!

Andy died peacefully, on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, he was 93 years old.
