Ann Treinen

October 12, 1914 — February 19, 2007

Ann Cecelia Martinmaas, daughter of Gerhard and Josephine (Hemetsberger) Martinmass, was born October 12, 1914 in Polo, South Dakota, where she was baptized on October 15, 1914 by Reverend Peter Lauer. She began her schooling and graduated from the Parochial School in Polo. In 1938, Ann moved to Morris, where she began working as a housekeeper for Henry Treinen. Ann and Henry were united in marriage on January 12, 1944 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris by Father John Fearon. The couple farmed until June, 1948, when they moved into Morris. For 12 years, Ann was employed at S & L Department Store. She then went and worked for Stevenson's Clothing Store for another eight years. Henry died on November 12, 1972. Ann has continued to live in Morris since that time.



Ann was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where she served as an officer of the Daughter of Isabella including, Regent; State Welfare Chairman; State Prayer Front Chairman and State Secretary for 24 circles for four years. Ann was a member of the Diocesan Catholic Council of Women and was appointed State Historian. She was the past president of the VFW Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary; and Missions Circles. Ann started the Mission Circles for the Morris Deanery; including nice circles in the Morris area. She served on the Mission Board in St. Cloud for 28 years and received the Bishop's Medal for her many years of service. Ann enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially bridge. Ann and Henry belonged to the Square Dance Club, where they spent many enjoyable evenings dancing together.



Ann died on Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 92 years.



She is survived by two sisters: Betty Dalton of Eureka, SD, Rose Danberg of Miller, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers: Anton "Tony" Martinmaas, Joseph Danter and Herman Martinmaas; three sisters: Frances Schlicte, Mary Pawlovich and Josephine Pawlovich.



Pallbearers for the service are Ann's nephews: Charlie Thell, Larry Danberg, Ronny Parmely, Joe Martinmaas, Dan Danburg, Bob Dornbusch and Lenny Treinen. Honorary pallbearers are the Daughters of Isabella, American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. Josh Fischer will serve as song leader for the service with Jan Parmely serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
