Funeral services for Arlene Melchert of Morris, MN will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Carlton Andersen will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Horton Township.
Arlene Ann Martha Hoffman, daughter of Herbert and Lena (Miller) Hoffman, was born December 24, 1924 in Hancock, Minnesota, where she was baptized on January 25, 1925 by Pastor W. F. Springler and confirmed on April 10, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church by Reverend E. A. Hempeck. Arlene grew up in the Holloway area, attending country school until the eighth grade when she stopped to help out around the farm. On November 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Melchert at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hancock by Reverend H. C. Duehlmeier. The couple made their home in the Hancock area, where they farmed until 1986. In 1995, Arlene and Lloyd moved to Morris, where the couple kept busy by driving shuttle cars for Morris Auto Plaza until the fall of 2013. She also spent much of her free time gardening and keeping up with chores around the house and yard.
Arlene was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies circle. She enjoyed many hobbies such as sewing, playing cards, dancing, canning and baking all kinds of desserts, but her specialty was apple pie.
Arlene died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was 89 years old.
She is survived by her husband: Lloyd Melchert; two sons: Rick (Bonnie) Melchert and Randy Melchert (Jan Fiecke); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son; one brother: Leonard Hoffman; and one sister: Lorraine Rohloff.
