Funeral services for Arlene Moen of Lowry, Minnesota will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry with Pastor Ron Nielsen officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Arlene Opal Refsal, daughter of Clarence and Clara (Sorenson) Refsal, was born October 8, 1934 in Westbrook, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school through the 10th grade. In 1949, her family moved to a farm near Starbuck, Minnesota, where she graduated from Starbuck High School in 1952. On April 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to Tilfred Moen at Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck by Rev. G. O. Forde. Following their marriage, the family lived in Minneapolis for ten years, before she and Tilfred moved to a farm near Glenwood to raise their family. Following their retirement, they moved to Starbuck, where they continued to live until September, 2012, when they moved to Lowry.
Arlene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lowry, where she was active in the WELCA, Esther Circle and Sunshine chair. She was a 46 year member of the Friendly Get Together Club, where she held the office of treasurer. She was a long-time member of Homemakers and was a Lifetime 4-H Leader. She enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking of family history, crafts of plastic canvas and needle point, flower and vegetable gardening, author of the Moen family cookbook, and baked and decorated cakes for many family occasions. She loved rocking the new babies and spending time with family and friends.
Arlene died on Friday, May 10, 2013 at her home in Lowry, with her husband of 59 years by her side, having lived to reach the age of 78 years.
She is survived by her husband: Tilfred Moen of Lowry; eight children: Roger (Carol) Moen of Glenwood, Daniel (LuAnn) Moen of Glenwood, Wanda (Dick) Magaard of Nevis, Janet (Tony) Dropik of Nelson, Rose Anne (Curt) Dahlseng of Starbuck, Richard (Karen) Moen of Glenwood, Sandra (Duane) Cooley of Glenwood and Sarah (Gary) Runck of Redwood Falls; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Marvel Olson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Wayne and Arlo Refsal; grandchildren: Jodie Lynn Moen, Dane Richard Magaard, Baby December, Nora William and Samson Delilah Moen; great-grandchild: Joshua James Dahlseng and granddaughter-in-law: Steffanie Dahlseng.
