The funeral for Arlouine Gades, of Morris will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Morris with Reverend Carlton Andersen officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfield Township near Holloway.
Arlouine Huck, daughter of Walter and Mabel (Buchholz) Huck was born on October 25, 1926 in Melvin, Iowa. She attended school in Iowa, before moving to Minnesota and graduating from Appleton High School in 1947. Arlouine was united in marriage to Elmer Gades on October 20, 1948. The couple farmed near Hancock, Minnesota where they had dairy, cattle, hogs and raised chickens and ducks. Arlouine sold eggs and plucked and processed the poultry. Elmer died on March 31, 1980. Arlouine continued to live on the farm, and over the years worked at Elroy's Restaurant in Appleton, was a home health aide and a cook at the Sunwood Inn. In 1993, she moved into Morris and worked 17 years at the West Wind Village as a dietary aid, retiring at the age of 81. Arlouine loved working with her co-workers and the residents of West Wind Village. In November of 2009, she moved into Heritage Apartments where she continued to live until the time of her death.
She was a very active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Arlouine was a member of the Morris American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed embroidery, teaching Sunday School, reading the Bible, and had an interest in history. Arlouine will always be remembered for her fond love of her husband, children and grandchildren.
Arlouine died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at her home in Morris. She was 87 years old.
She is survived by three sons, Victor (Pamela), Morris, Thomas (Kathleen), Burnsville and Steven (Dori), Hancock; one sister, Leola (Floyd) Eliason, Alberta; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arlouine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Phyllis Christianson and one nephew, Jon Eliason.
