Arnold Otto Vold, son of Otto and Cecil (Shuckhart) Vold, was born October 15, 1936 in Graceville, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Graceville High School in 1954. Growing up on the family farm, Arnold stayed busy working. During high school he started dating Virginia Gruneich and the two were married on September 29, 1956. To this union six children were born. Following in the family-farming tradition, the children all started working with their dad and mom at a very young age, frequently tagging along in a walker.
Arnold farmed his land until his son Brad’s passing in 2014. From there, he rented out the family land, but continued to stay active helping anyone in need of a farmhand. He enjoyed gardening, especially potatoes, and was quite handy. Many would say “he could do anything…or, at least he tried.”
During his retirement, Arnold liked to go on walks with Virginia, the two were Silver Sneakers award winners. He was also a member of Gideon International for many years. Arnold is fondly remembered for his coat pockets constantly overflowing with little green bibles.
When not outside, Arnold could be found playing cards, playing games, trying to coax others to play a game or cards, or settling for watching them on the Game Show Network when all else failed. He was a steadfast man of faith, stubborn, and partial to Chevys and John Deeres – if you were driving something different don’t bother coming down the driveway.
Until just weeks ago, Arnold and Virginia lived together in an assisted living facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota. After suffering a fall, Arnold was rushed to the St. Cloud Hospital, then transferred to Assumption House for physical therapy. He spent his last days making friends and enjoying the staff at Assumption House in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
Arnold died on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Assumption Home in Cold Spring, MN; he was 86 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Vold of Johnson; three sons: Randy (Mayeth) Vold of Burnsville, Michael (Diane) Vold of Hudson, FL, and Jeffrey (Lori) Vold of Foreston; one daughter: Jodi (Robert) Herstine of Winter Springs, FL; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Kris Vold of Wahpeton, ND. He was preceded in death by his sons: Douglas Vold and Brad Vold; his parents, and one sister, Marie Trippler.
