Berdella Jost

Berdella Mabel Strand, daughter of John and Mabel (Scofield) Strand, was born September 7, 1917 in Donnelly, Minnesota, where she grew up on the family homestead near Donnelly. She began her schooling at Country School District #63 and continued her education at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, graduating in 1936. Berdella worked in the food service department at the Morris Hospital and the University of Minnesota, Morris, until her retirement in 1976. On November 6, 1970, she was united in marriage to Donald Jost in Morris.



Berdella was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid. She found joy in cooking, gardening, quilting and traveling to spend time with extended family. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her children.



Berdella died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 90 years.



She is survived by her husband: Donald Jost of Morris; four children: Judelle (Len) Bull of St. Cloud, Dennis (Leslie) Twenge of Spokane, WA, Duane (Jane) Twenge of Florida and Rebecca Roberts of Centennial, CO; two step-sons: Ken (Nora) Jost of Morris and Joe (Susan) Jost of Morris; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister: Joyce (Don) Huebner of Morris and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Sigwald Twenge and Ray Summer; son: Sheldon Twenge; grandson: Benjamin Martin: step-son: Richard Jost; step-daughter: LouAnn Jost; six brothers: Donald, Melvin, Stanley, Floyd, Edisteen and Milton and three sisters: Mildred Bowen, Florence Tryegstad and Martha Sommer.



Pallbearers for the service are all of Berdella's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are all of Berdella?s great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson. Phyllis Joos will serve as organist for the service with Sharon Martin providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
