Funeral services for Bernice Klevann of Starbuck, MN will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck with Pastor Fran Hill officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
Bernice Nordaune, daughter of John and Julia (Moseng) Nordaune, was born on May 24, 1920 on a farm in White Bear Lake Township near Starbuck, Minnesota. As she grew up, she attended country school, and later graduated from Starbuck High School in 1938. Following her schooling, Bernice helped care for various family members. On February 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Helmer Klevann at the Minnewaska Parsonage in Starbuck. To this union, three children Patricia, Paul, and Bonnie were born. The family made their home on a farm west of Starbuck, where they farmed for 44 years. After Helmer and Bernice retired from farming, they moved to Cyrus, Minnesota and later returned to Starbuck. Helmer died on April 9, 2003, having spent 61 wonderful years with his wife Bernice. Following his death, Bernice continued to live at Holly Ridge in Starbuck. In 2014, Bernice became a resident of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Bernice was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she served several times as president and secretary of the Ladies Aid, helped make quilts and other projects for missions, sang in the church choir, and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, collecting stamps, rocks and pens, sewing, quilting and tending to her flower gardens. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Bernice died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN. She lived to 97 years.
She is survived by her children: Patricia (Gary) Jackson of Mora, Paul (Dianne) Klevann of Maple Plain and Bonnie Lerberg of Eden Prairie; 7 grandchildren: Michael (Karen) Jackson, Cynthia (Scott) Estes, Paul (Bridget) Klevann, Alison Klevann, Adam (Stacey) Klevann, Erik (Susan) Klevann and Jennifer Lerberg; 14 great-grandchildren: Katie, Jeff, Zach, Nick, Lacie, Annabelle, Hayden, Dylan, Alexis, Paige, Emma, Wynne, Russell and Jay; one cousin and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Helmer; her parents; six brothers: Elias, Joseph, Cornie, Johannes, Alfred and Elvin; six sisters: Hilda, Marit, Anna, Juline, Rosella and one infant sister; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and special friend Burton.
Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
