Funeral services for Bernice Luthi of Morris will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, rural Morris. The Apostolic Christian Church Ministers will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Bernice Elizabeth Bruland, was born to Peder and Regina (Rasmusson) Bruland on March 25, 1931 in Starbuck, Minnesota. She attended Cyrus Public School, graduating in 1949. She then attended the Minnesota School of Business for a short time while working as a live-in nanny in Minneapolis.
On July 3, 1954 she was united in marriage to Harold Luthi. To this union four children were born. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Harold passed away on February 24, 2009. Bernice was a dedicated farmwife and always made sure there was a pan of bars sitting by the stove for all to enjoy. She enjoyed the numerous years she babysat her grandchildren and a number neighborhood children. Bernice loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She passes on her love of flowers and reading to her children and grandchildren.
Bernice passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having reached the age of 80 years, 5 months.
She is survived by four children: Daniel (Christine) Luthi of Morris, Carol (Dale) Richter of Maplewood, Daryl Luthi of Morris and Rita (Larry) Bye of Cyrus; nine grandchildren: Ryan (Heather) Luthi, Caleb (Wendy) Luthi, Aaron (Amanda) Luthi, Amanda (Carter) Feuchtenberger, Braden Luthi, Derek Richter, Elena Richter, Hannah Bye and Lynnea Bye; nine great-grandchildren: Alivia, Lily & Anna Luthi, Jasmine & Gavin Luthi, Noah & Abram Luthi and Seth & Eli Feuchtenberger; sister-in-law: Marlene Bruland of Cyrus, nieces and nephew: Sheri (Joe) Gerzina, Sandy (Jeff) Anderson & Michael (Jennifer) Bruland and several extended family members in Leirvik, Norway. She is also survived by step-mother-in-law: Lillie Luthi of Morris, in-laws: Raymond & Violet Luthi of Lamar, MO, Reuben & Chrystol Luthi of Morris, Violet Wulf of Morris, Wilma & Clyde Kuntz of Gridley, IL, Lillian & Howard Mogler of Alvord, IA, Della Luthi of Morris and several Luthi nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, her brother Milton Bruland and in-laws: Albert Luthi, Donald Luthi, Leonard Wulf, Marilyn Luthi and Myrtle Luthi.
Pallbearers for the service are Bernice's grandsons: Ryan Luthi, Caleb Luthi, Aaron Luthi, Braden Luthi, Derek Richter and Carter Feuchtenberger. Honorary pallbearers are Bernice's granddaughters: Amanda Feuchtenberger, Elena Richter, Hannah Bye, Lynnea Bye, Amanda Luthi, Heather Luthi and Wendy Luthi. The Apostolic Christian Church Choir will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
