Funeral services for Bernice Nystuen of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Father Vincent Miller will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.
Bernice Evon Nystuen, daughter of Elmer and Eva (Bearl) Nystuen, was born March 22, 1928 in Morris, where she grew up and attended Morris Public Schools, graduating in 1946. She continued her education at St. Cloud College and taught in rural schools for a few years. Bernice joined the United States Navy, serving 21 years as a Corpman Surgical Technician. Following her discharge, Bernice returned to Morris to care for her family. In 2011, she became a resident of West Wind Village in Morris, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.
Bernice enjoyed fishing, gardening, the outdoors, painting, cross stitch, bowling and dogs. She was especially proud to own her own boat. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Bernice died on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 85 years.
She is survived by one brother: Wayne Nystuen of Frazee; one sister: Phyllis Kiehl of Largo, FL; one sister-in-law: Ardis Nystuen of Buffalo; one brother-in-law: Kenneth Pedersen of Alexandria and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Richard, Orland and James and two sisters: Verna Medlock and Jean Pedersen.
