Bertha Minnie Stredde, daughter of Fredrich and Ulinka (Martens) Stredde, was born November 11, 1922 in Bridgewater, South Dakota, where she was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church. She grew up in South Dakota and received her education at a country school. In the mid 1940's, Bertha moved to California, where she worked in a grocery store as a cashier and bookkeeper for over fifty years. In the fall of 1999, she moved to the Starbuck area, where she has continued to live since that time.
Bertha enjoyed playing cards; she also enjoyed the fine arts, reading, traveling and visiting family and friends.
Bertha died on Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Bethany Home in Alexandria, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.
She is survived by her sisters: Lorinda (Oliver) Felt of Alexandria, Ruth Stredde of Mitchell, SD, Dorothy Wolfe of Aurora, IL, Ella Gossel of Canistota, SD, Mary Ann (Orville) Jurgenson of Elburn, IL and Ulinka Crippen of Madison, SD; three sisters-in-law: Lois Stredde of Elgin, IL, Mary Jean Stredde of Willmar and Deon Stredde of Tabor, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Carl, Fred and Walter Stredde; one niece: Julia Ann DeJong; one nephew: Stephen DeJong and four brother-in-laws: Lee DeJong, Lester Gossel, Alfred Wolfe and Dan Crippen.
Pallbearers for the service are Bertha's nieces and nephews. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
