Bertilla "Berty" Callahan

The funeral for Lottie Bertilla “Berty” Callahan, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the West Wind Village Chapel, with Deacon Stan Hennen officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, one hour prior to services at West Wind Village. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Lottie Bertilla “Berty” Erickson, daughter of Nels and Gurina (Johannsen) Erickson was born on July 5, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was baptized at the Central Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Berty moved with her family to Menahga, Minnesota and later Morris, Minnesota, graduating from Morris High School. In 1950, Berty moved to California, working as a secretary, and realtor/broker. She was united in marriage to James M. Callahan. The couple made their home in Long Beach California. Berty worked several years as an outfitter, backpacking hunters by horseback into the mountains. James died on April 30, 1988. After James’ death, Berty moved to Minneapolis, before returning to Morris. She entered the West Wind Village in Morris in 2015.

Berty died on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at West Wind Village. She was 103 years old.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Berty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters, Ethel (Melvin) Holman, Irene (Carl) Hill, and Kathryn (Marsh) Snowberg.
