Funeral services for Betty McCormack of Alexandria, formerly of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. Reverend Nathan Thompson will be officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Betty Lu Max, daughter of Lawrence and Bessie (Berglund) Max, was born on April 20, 1932 in Alexandria, Minnesota. At a young age, Betty’s family moved to Morris, Minnesota where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Morris High School in 1950. Growing up, Betty worked at her father’s bakery, Max’s Bakery. While working at the bakery, she met Silas McCormack. They were united in marriage on September 23, 1950 at First Lutheran Church in Morris.
The couple made their home in Morris where Betty began a career as a receptionist at the Morris Clinic. Betty also assisted her husband at their business, MSI Insurance until their retirement in 1998. Betty enjoyed playing bridge and attending birthday club with friends. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria and the Morris V.FW. Auxiliary.
Betty died on Friday, May 24, 2019, at her home in Alexandria, surrounded by her family. She was 87 years old.
She is survived by her children: Major (Paula Donath) McCormack of St. Cloud, Bruce (Laura) McCormack of Morris and Pat (Craig) Swenson of Hancock; six grandchildren: Maggie (Chris Mueller) McCormack, Mindy (Willie) McCormack-Fisher, Mark (Caitlin White) McCormack, Mary (Joel) Suchy, Shawn (Krista) Swenson and Blake (Mandy) Swenson and four great-grandchildren: Parker Swenson, Paxton Swenson, Malachi Fisher and Ariana Fischer. She was preceded in death by her husband Silas and her parents.
