Funeral Services for Bly Jallo of Chokio, MN will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, with Rev. Rochelle Anderson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery in Appleton, MN.
Bly Muriel Shelstad, daughter of Melvin and Betty (Swenson) Shelstad, was born November 20, 1920 in Correll, Minnesota, where she grew up and was baptized on January 6, 1921. She was confirmed on May 19, 1935 at Emmanual Evangelical Lutheran Church in Odessa, MN. Bly attended and graduated from Correll High School on June 19, 1937. She continued her education at teachers training in Ortonville, MN. Following her schooling, Bly taught rural schools, before joining the Chokio/Alberta School District. When she started teaching, she continued her education through summer school, correspondence and on-campus classes, until graduating in 1971 from the University of Minnesota Morris with a BA in Education. Bly taught school for 44 years, before retiring in 1984. She loved her chosen occupation and was passionate about all of her students.
On February 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Raymond Jallo. To this union two sons were born, Ole and Joel. The family lived on a farm in Stevens County until 1975, when Raymond and Bly built a house in Chokio. Bly was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. Following her retirement, Bly enjoyed reading, bowling, and dancing at the VFW on Saturday evenings. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who called her "Bun Grandma". Family was most important and loved family gatherings.
Bly died on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Legends of Heritage in Sartell, Minnesota. She lived to 95 years, 11 months and 29 days.
She is survived by her son: Ole (Connie) Jallo of Cold Spring; daughter-in-law: Jan Jallo of Morris; sister-in-law: Beatrice Shelstad of Clinton; six grandchildren: Noelle (Brian) Gahlon, Aaron (Emily) Jallo, Tami (Jesse) Jacobson, Angie (Jeff) Fikse, Andrew Jallo and Jonathon Jallo; eight great-grandchildren: Whitney, Devon and Gabrielle Gahlon, Lane, Levi (Kirsten) Klumb, Zach Jallo and Dominick and Gracyn Jacobson. She also leaves many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond Jallo; her son: Joel Jallo; sister: Betty Bolstad and brother: Verlyn Shelstad.
