Bruce James Pollard, son of Lester and Elizabeth “Betty” (Kill) Pollard, was born on January 20, 1951 at Graceville, Minnesota. After graduating from Cyrus High School, Bruce remained on the family farm, raising corn and beans and finishing hogs. As his parents retired from farming, Bruce switched from finishing hogs to Holstein steers.
With longtime farmhand and friend, Chuck Ritter, Bruce enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, flathead catfishing, muzzleloader deer hunting, and winning at casinos. Bruce could be found driving tractor or cheering the Vikings with his canine companion, Missy, on his lap. Hardworking as he was, Bruce was often heard saying, “Gotta keep on rollin’!”
Bruce was known for his kind and gentle spirit. With over 30 years of sobriety, Bruce poured out compassion by sponsoring many recovering alcoholics. He loved family, doting over his granddaughters and never failing to call and sing “Happy Birthday” to siblings and friends.
Bruce James Pollard passed away peacefully at West Wind Village in Morris on Sunday, October 6, 2019. He enjoyed life and actively farmed while braving diabetes and leukemia.
Bruce is survived by his son: Brent “BJ” Pollard of Cyrus; two granddaughters: Destiny and Lydia Pollard of Donnelly; one step-son: John "Mike" Fassinger of Kensington; one step-daughter: Carrie Fassinger of Blaine; three sisters: Connie (Spencer) Howey of Alexandria, Chleo Anderson of Alexandria, and RaeJean (Ted) Marsh of Roberts, WI; one brother: Kevin (Linda) Pollard of Kensington; devoted friend: Chuck Ritter of Hancock; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Betty Pollard; a nephew: Corey Swanson; four infant nieces; and three infant nephews.
