Burdell Lawrence Barsness, son of Carl Barsness and Betsey (Lerdahl) Barsness, was born December 29, 1917 in Walden Township in Pope County, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended rural country school. Following his schooling, he worked for area farmers. On June 18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ruth E. Larson. The couple lived and farmed in the Cyrus area. In 1982, they retired and moved into Cyrus. Burdell and Ruth enjoyed spending many winters in Arizona. Ruth died on April 10, 1995. Burdell continued to live in Cyrus until July of 2010, when he moved to Skyview in Morris. In August he became a resident at West Wind Village, where he continued to live until the time of his death.

Burdell was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. He enjoyed collecting old tools, camping, traveling the countryside and checking crops. Burdell also enjoyed woodworking, had made many lamps that he shared and donated and also made several items for his church. But most of all, Burdell loved spending time with his family and friends.

Burdell died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.
