Burton Strand

Memorial services for Burton Strand of Donnelly will be held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly. Reverend Judy Gelinske will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be held in the spring in Kongsvinger Lutheran Cemetery.

Burton Hansen Strand, son of Moses and Edna (Hansen) Strand, was born September 29, 1931 in Donnelly Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where he grew up. Burton was baptized on October 18, 1931 by Rev. Andrew Olson and Confirmed on October 21, 1945 by Rev. Sverre Torgerson at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly . Burton began his schooling at School District #42 through the 8th grade and continued at Alberta, graduating from Alberta High School in 1949. On September 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Irene Cin at the Church of the Nazarine in Alberta, MN. The couple lived and farmed in Donnelly Township in Stevens County. Burton retired in 1987 and has continued to live on the farm since that time.

Burton was a member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council for several years. He was also President of the Donnelly Community Club and served on the FSA County Committee for 13 years and was Donnelly Township Supervisor for several years. He enjoyed fishing, Threshing Bees, woodworking and listening to Polka music. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Burton died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 79 years.

He is survived by his wife: Irene Strand of Donnelly; four children: Rebecca Bergstom of Donnelly, Bonnie Haynes of Donnelly, Burdell Strand of Donnelly and Beth (Conrad) Jackson of St. Paul; eight grandchildren: Mindy (Jake) Eystad, Christy (Brent) Pollard, Nicole (Jeremyah) Wittern, Jessica Bergstrom, Andrea Bergstrom (Joha Torma), Samantha Bergstrom, Angela (Michael) Lackowitzer and Dylan Jackson; eight great-grandchildren: Aryn, Lee and Garrett Eystad, Destiny and Lydia Pollard, Scarlet Bergstrom, Jada Wittern and Mason Torma; one brother: Merlyn Strand of Coon Rapids; sisters-in-law: Della Cin of Morris and Lyla Cin of Morris and sister and brother-in-law: Les and Lyla Cin of Donnelly. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons-in-law: Charles Bergstrom and David Haynes; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

Conrad Jackson will serve as urn bearer for the service. Burton's grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Sue Erdahl-Nelson will serve as organist for the service with the Kongsvinger Trio providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
