Byron Holman

Byron Boyd Holman, son of Melvin and Ethel (Erickson) Holman, was born July 5, 1933 in Morris , Minnesota , where he grew up and began his schooling, graduating from Morris Area High Schools. On April 26, 1951, Byron enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge on January 23, 1956. Following his discharge, Byron continued his education at UND in Grand Forks , North Dakota . While attending school, he was united in marriage to Marlys McGillivray. Following their marriage, the couple continued to live in East Grand Forks , where Byron worked as an Insurance Consultant. They later moved to the Twin Cities, where Byron retired from G. D. Vanwagonon. On April 13, 1998, he married Shirley Anderson. The couple made their home near Donnelly , Minnesota .





Byron was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where he served on the Finance Committee. He was a scrupulous bridge player and loved woodworking, fishing and spending time at Little Pine Lake Cabin with his wonderful two families. Byron was very proud to have served his country.





Byron died on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Could, MN, having lived to reach the age of 76 years.





He is survived by his wife: Shirley Anderson of Donnelly; one son: Jeff (Pam) Holman of Clear Lake; two daughters: Joni (Kevin) Osterberg of Maple Grove and Julie (Tom) Olejar of Otsego; 16 grandchildren: Ashley & Eric Osterberg; Katie Holman; Richard Desalle; Adam, Jacob and Samantha Olejar; Jesse (Misty) Eystad; Meghan, John Michael and Will Ellenbecker; Nic (Tabitha) Lesmeister; Matt and Adam Lesmeister; Kristin Tordoff and Sierra Anderson; three great-grandchildren: Cael, Chalee and Kane; two brothers: Kermit (Audrey) Holman of Redmond, WA and Dick (Carol) Holman of St. Cloud; step-children: Kathy (John) Ellenbecker of St. Cloud, Mark Anderson of Donnelly, Sharon Anderson of Prior Lake, Mary (Mike) Stahn of Morris and Colleen Oachs (Mike Bertram) of Herman; step-son-in-law: Jerry (Jane) Lesmeister of Morris and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents and step-daughter: Jeanne Lesmeister..





Serving as pallbearers are: Kevin Osterberg, Tom Olejar, Mark Anderson, Eric Osterberg, Jesse Eystad and Nicholas Lesmiester. Honorary pallbearers are his bridge buddies: Harold Anderson, Dr. Ketterling, Dr. Krasses and his brothers: Dick Holman and Kermit Holman. Deb Mahoney will serve as pianist for the service with Holly Giese serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
