Funeral services for Byron Marquart of Appleton, Minnesota will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township in Swift County, Minnesota. Reverend Donald Klatt will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Byron Verlan Marquart, son of Henry and Ida (Gades) Marquart, was born October 23, 1931 in Tara Township in Swift County, Minnesota. He was baptized on October 23, 1931 at his parent's home and confirmed on April 15, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township. He attended and graduated from Holloway High School on May 27, 1949. In January, 1954, Byron enlisted in the United States Army, serving until January, 1956, when he received an honorable discharge. On September 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Elvera Hansen. The couple made their home in Fairfield Township, where they raised their children and farmed. Byron retired from farming in 1991.
Byron was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, tractor pulls, tug-a-war contests and going to auctions and sale barns. During high school he enjoyed playing football, baseball and basketball. He had a love of driving around and checking the crops each day, sometimes even twice. He also enjoyed stopping and talking to the neighbors and family.
Byron died on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota. He lived to reach the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife: Elvera Marquart of Appleton; five children: Carol (Robert) Peters of Manitoba, Canada, Judy (David) Johnson of Franklin, Dori Bechtle (special friend: Kelly Peck) of Montevideo, Jill (Randy) Augustin of Willmar and Jon (Laura) Marquart of Appleton; six grandchildren: Pamela, Donny, Sara, Patti, Brendan and Randy; one great-grandson: Jacob; one brother: Gary (Rusty) Marquart of Hancock and a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Marion Pugh and sister, Ada Mae Mesenbrink.
Pallbearers for the service are: Dale VanZee, Donald Bechtle, Brendan Peters, Randy Marquart, Allen Jacobson, Geoff Carlson, Cory Marquart and Kirby Marquart. JoAnn Schliep will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Courage Cottage in Morris.
