Funeral services for Calista Kerneghan will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Federated Church in Morris. Reverend Jennifer Amy-Dressler will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Calista Peterson, daughter of Peter and Mina (Jeffers) Peterson was born June 29, 1910 in Echo, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm on Lake Osakis. On July 17, 1930, she was united in marriage to Harvey Kerneghan. In 1945, the family moved to Morris, where Calista worked at Knowles Department Store as a clerk and for Dr. Jorgenson as a dental assistant.
Calista was a member of Federated Church in Morris, where she was active with the ladies aid. She was also a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Calista enjoyed quilting, gardening, camping and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Calista died on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 101 years.
She is survived by two children: Alice Heckethorn of McPherson, KS and Gail Dufour of Newport Beach, CA; five grandchildren: Susan Heckethorn of Los Alamos, NM, Dale (Tamela) Heckethorn of Cheney, KS, Dean Heckethorn of Salina, KS, Judy (Don) Noller of Marion, KS and Jill Kanzler of Balboa Island, CA and four great-grandchildren: Lauren Thomas, Brant Heckethorn, Erin Heckethorn and Maddie Kanzler. She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson: Michael Dufour; her parents and one sister: Ruth Plowman.
Anika Kildegaard will serve as pianist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
