Carl Anderson

Funeral services for Carl Anderson of Morris will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Private family burial will be in Artichoke Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chokio.

Carl Adolph Anderson, son of Adolph and Edith (Nelson) Anderson, was born December 5, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois. He was baptized on January 3, 1926 and confirmed on June 18, 1939 at Ravenswood Mission Covenant Church. Carl attended and graduated from North Park Academy in Chicago in 1943. In the summers of 1941 and 1942, Carl came to Stevens County, where he would help Chris and Gunda Hanson with their farm. After he graduated from high school, Carl moved to Stevens County where his uncle, Carl Nelson, gave him a quarter of land to farm. On October 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Arliene Maynard. The couple continued to raise grains, hogs, dairy cows and chickens. In 1953, they bought a farm nine miles south of Chokio, where they continued to live and farm until 2004, when they retired and moved to Morris.

Carl was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. He was also a board member of the Stevens County Soil and Water Conservation District for 30 years, where he served as president of the State SWCD from 1987 to 1988. Carl also served as president of the Barnes-Aastad Research Association. In 1964, Carl was chosen Stevens County Conservation Farmer of the Year. He enjoyed hunting, reading and crossword puzzles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Carl died on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 85 years.

He is survived by his wife: Arliene Anderson of Morris; six children: Carleen (Olyn) Wernsing of Villard, David C. (Ruth) Anderson of Chokio, Diana (David) Ferris of Alexandria, Linda Anderson of Crystal, Brigitta (Scott) Fox of Boston, MA and Paul Anderson of Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren: Shane (Kim) Wernsing, Tyler (Courtney) Wernsing, April (Brent) Bauman, Jennifer (James) Ahrndt, Nathan Anderson, Meredith (Ethan) Jamieson, Lori (Don) Garnder and Amanda (Steve) Sambrano ; 16 great-grandchildren and one niece: Elizabeth Anderson of Blaine. He was preceded in death by his son: Lynn Anderson; his parents and one sister and brother-in-law: Ruth and Harold Johnson.

Pallbearers for the service are Carl's grandchildren: Shane Wernsing, Tyler Wernsing, April Bauman, Jennifer Ahrndt, Nathan Anderson, Meredith Jamieson, Lori Garnder and Amanda Sambrano. Deb Mahoney will serve as pianist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
