Funeral services for Carol Durkee of Morris, MN will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Reed Stockman officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Carol Darlene (Osterman) Durkee was born on January 14, 1933 in Moore Township to Herman and Florence (Agar) Osterman. She attended Hancock Public School in Hancock, MN, graduating with the class of 1951. 

Carol met the love of her life, Arthur Durkee, and they were married on September 5, 1953, To this union seven children were born.

 Carol was a homemaker, working endlessly on their family farm raising their children, gardening and canning, grinding wheat and making bread, preparing meals, churning butter, mowing the lawn and gathering eggs from nearly 8,000 chickens. To say she was a hard worker is an understatement!

Carol was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and later her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with friends, and teasing some of her favorite staff at The Legacy.

After a brief illness, Carol passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at The Legacy in Morris. She lived to reach the age of 91 years.

She is survived by her five children: Jackie (Ken) Nohl of Hancock, Rita (Dean) Meichsner of Morris, Keith Durkee of Hancock, Peg (Brian) Kruize of Morris and Linda (Terry) Engebretson of Cyrus; 12 grandchildren: Brian (Kayla) Nohl, Tonya (Bryan) Weiss, Karla (Lorne) Nadgwick, Eric (Liz) Meichsner, Tyler (McKinzie) Meichsner, Tracy Meichsner (special friend Jackson Miller), Emma (Brandon) Leuthardt, Olivia (Will) Schroers, Amber (Scott) Melberg, Bree (Mitch) Daly, Tera (Tyler) Erdman and Travis Engebretson; 24 great-grandchildren and counting; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art, and two sons: Albert and Greg Durkee; her parents: Herman and Florence Osterman; and siblings: Robert Osterman, Wilfred (Fritz) Osterman, Kenneth Osterman, Margaret Osterman, Herb Osterman, Dorothy Eckstein and Marion Opp.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIALS ARE PREFERED TO THE LEGACY IN MORRIS OR DONORS’ CHOICE.

In lieu of sending individual notes, we would like to take this opportunity to say a very heartfelt “THANK YOU” to everyone for your many acts of kindness and support during this difficult time.
