Funeral services for Cecelia Strand of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 pm at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Scandia West Cemetery, rural Morris.
Cecelia Elenora Barsness, daughter of Carl and Betsey (Lerdahl) Barsness, was born July 12, 1914 in Walden Township in Pope County, Minnesota. She was baptized in August, 1914 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Reverend Forde and confirmed on May 16, 1929 at Cyrus Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Ernest N. Strand on September 30, 1943 at Scandia East Lutheran Church, near Morris, MN. The couple lived in the Framnas Township area for a few years, before moving to Swan Lake Township, where they lived until Ernest's death on August 31, 1988. Cecelia became a resident of West Central Homes in Morris in July, 1995, where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Cecelia died on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota. She lived to reach the age of 97 years.
She is survived by her sons, Roger Strand of Graceville and Rollyn Strand of Clinton; granddaughter, Brandy Ross-Strand of New York; four great-grandchildren, Kassandra Ross-Strand, Jonathan Bissell, Isabella Ross-Strand and Tabitha Ross-Strand; sister, Myrtle Kuehn of Moorhead and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Burdell Barsness; daughter-in-law, Sharon Strand; eight sisters-in-law: Ruth Barsness, Gyda Solberg, Inez Strand, Olga Strand, Muriel Strand, Mildred Strand, Ruby Strand and Hazel Strand; and four brothers-in-law: Ervin Kuehn, Arnold Strand, Otto Solberg and Arthur Strand.
Pallbearers for the service are: Roger Strand, Rollyn Strand, Keith Asmus, Richard Barsness, Howard Strand, Gerald Kuehn, Charles Barsness and Cornell Svaren. Cornell Svaren and Sheryle Dahl will be soloists for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
