Funeral services for Charles Robert MacRunnel of Starbuck will be held Thursday, December 30th, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the First Evangelical Free Church in Benson, MN. Pastor, Reed Egerstrom will be officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, MN and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Charles Robert MacRunnel was born September 14th, 1935 in Woodstock, MN, son of Worley and Dorothy (Jagt) MacRunnel. He grew up in the Tyler area, where his parents farmed. When he was 14, the family moved to a farm near New London until he returned to the Tyler area at 16 to work. Returning to the New London area at age 18, he worked as a mechanic at Halverson's Implement in Spicer, then later at Holm Brothers in Atwater doing tractor repair. He was united in marriage to Sylvia Ann Goodsen on March 9th, 1956, at the New London Covenant Church. The couple made their first home in San Bernardino, CA, where he attended automatic transmission school and worked for Snow's Ford Garage. They returned to Minnesota in July of 1958 where he opened his first auto repair shop in Atwater. In 1966 the family moved to Starbuck, MN. He worked in auto repair and as an over-the-road truck driver until he retired in 2003. He filled his retirement by repairing and restoring old John Deere tractors.
Charles will be missed, by his wife of 55 years, Sylvia MacRunnel of Starbuck; four children: Dawn (Brian) Nelson of Wayzata, Steven of Starbuck, Bradley (Debra Frank) of Elk River and Gary (Sue Bouley) of Wayzata. Ten grandchildren: Derek (Cassie) Nelson, Reid Nelson, Bryce Nelson, Wade Nelson, Amari Nelson, Shaun (Autumn) MacRunnel, Aaron (Evie) MacRunnel, Gregory MacRunnel, Sarah MacRunnel and Daniel MacRunnel. Five great-grandchildren: Morgan Nelson, Collin Nelson, Remington Nelson, Jackson MacRunnel and Theodore MacRunnel. Sisters: Dorothy (Darrell) Farwick of San Bernardino, CA, Shirley Squire of Oregon, Arlene (Roger) Duncan of Hancock; brothers: Arend (Doris) MacRunnel of Albany, OR and John MacRunnel of Redlands, CA. Also many, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, a grandson, Scott MacRunnel, sister, Jean (Jake) VanDyke and brother, Jim.
Charles's grandsons will serve as pallbearers for the service. Music will be provided by: Agnette Duncan, Frank and Pam Lawatsch, Saralyn Olson and Mark Olson. The Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
