Memorial services for Charles “Charlie” Mayer will be held at a later date. No Flowers are requested.
Charles Edward Mayer was born in Glencoe, to Louis and Mabel (Hoelz) Mayer. He was raised in NE Minneapolis where he attended Edison High School, graduating with the class of 1958. Following his education, he worked various jobs in the area before starting his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad as a carman. Charlie met Sharon Canavan Webber in Minneapolis in the early 80’s. The couple dated and lived together in Colombia Heights. They were married on August 19, 1988. In 1988, Charlie bought a little house in Starbuck, Minnesota for weekends of fishing and hunting in the area. In March of 1990, he and Sharon purchased a home together in Starbuck and moved there permanently. Charlie retired at the age of 42, due to a disability.
Fishing was Charlie’s first love, and that was the big draw for him moving to Starbuck, the great fishing on Lake Minnewaska. In addition to fishing, he loved to hunt as well, mostly deer, but also birds. Charlie enjoyed telling his many hunting and fishing stories to anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed taking long walks, two a day, and getting the mail – this was his time to socialize, visiting with his family and friends was very important to him.
Charlie died on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, he was 81 years old.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sharon of Starbuck; his children: Charles Jr. (Pam) Mayer of Blaine, Laura Bebault of Huntington Beach, CA, Timmothy (Mamie) Webber of Starbuck, Christine (Bill) Keller of Lino Lakes, and Theresa (Daniel) Stratton of Coon Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Jean Golden of CA, and Margie Hauge of Rockford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters and brothers-in-law.
