Funeral services for Charles Mesenbrink Sr. of Morris, will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Rob Jarvis will be officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Horton Township.
Charles William Mesenbrink, son of Karl "Charles" & Augusta (Winkleman) Mesenbrink, was born September 30, 1931 on the family farm in Horton Township, Minnesota. He grew up in Horton Township and began his education at the District #20 School, later attending Hancock High School. After his schooling, he began working on the family farm. On December 30, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Thurmer at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple lived and farmed on the family farm in Horton Township until their retirement in 1996. After retiring, they continued to live on the home farm until moving into Morris in 2009.
Charles has been a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served at one time as vice president of the church council, and was also sexton of the Zion Lutheran Cemetery for many years. He was also an active member of the Stevens County Pheasants Forever, and was awarded their prestigious Strubby Award for all his dedication over the years. Charles was also the 2004 Stevens County Soil & Water District Conservationist Award Winner. He has also been active in Ducks Unlimited, the 9F Sportsman Club and was a long-time supporter of the Stevens County 4H program.
Some of Charles' favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting deer and pheasants, planting trees to support the wildlife, playing cards and supporting the Minnesota Twins, but most of all, Charles loved being a farmer.
Charles died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN, having lived to reach the age of 79 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Mesenbrink of Morris; three daughters: Linda (David) Bellanger-Rethwisch of Frazee, Deborah (Wendel) Marotzke of Hancock and Wendy (Roger) Witt of Little Falls; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one sister: Lois Hamann of Benson. He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Mesenbrink Jr.; his grandson, Charles Bellanger; his parents, Charlie & Augusta Mesenbrink; his brother and sister-in-law, Archibald and Ada Mae Mesenbrink and his brother-in-law, Wilbur Hamann.
Pallbearers for the service are: Dennis Wulf, Jerry Hentges, Ken Nissen, Don Munsterman, Palmer Gilsrud and Merle Spohr. Honorary Pallbearers are All of Charlesa�(TM) Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren and Everyone Who Called Charlie Their Friend. Dorothy Maus will serve as organist for the service with Josh Fischer serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
