Christine Sperr

The funeral for Christine Ann Sperr, of Chokio, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Herman, with Deacon Arthur Abel officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery, Herman.

Christine Ann Sperr, daughter of John and Josephine (Williams) Backman was born on June 24, 1921 in Eldorado Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. She attended District #63 Country School near Donnelly. After her schooling, Christine worked as a housekeeper for area families. She was united in marriage to Fred Sperr on June 6, 1944 at the United Methodist Church in Herman. The couple made their home in Hoffman until 1961, when they moved to Herman. In 1964, the family moved to Alberta where Fred took the manager job at the local elevator. In 1973, they moved to Chokio where they have made their home. Christine entered the Essentia Health Grace Home in Graceville in April of 2011.

Christine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Herman. She enjoyed gardening, dancing and sewing. Christine was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and adored dressing her five girls. Christine will be remembered for being humble and devoted; but most of all she will be remembered for the care and love for her family.

Christine died on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Essentia Health Grace Home in Graceville, Minnesota. She was 93 years old.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Fred, Chokio, MN; five daughters, Corlys Behan, Norcross, MN, LuAnn (LeRoy) Honkomp, Avon, MN, Louise (Doug) Christians and Arlou Flannigan all of Chokio, MN and Janet (Greg) Staebler, Fairmont, MN; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Christine was preceded in death by her parents, two sons-in-law, Jim Behan and Ron Flannigan, two brothers, John Backman Jr. and Jerry Backman and two sisters, Eldora Ernst and Josephine Backman.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
