Clarice Marie Halvorson Hanson was born on July 20, 1918 in Starbuck MN to Hans and Nina (Olson) Halvorson. She grew up in the Starbuck area, was baptized and confirmed at the Minnewaska Church. On November 22, 1936 she was united in marriage to Louis (Louie) Hanson. She and Louie made their home in Starbuck MN where they raised 7 children: Marlys, Richard, David, Dean, Ronald, Ann, and Mark. Clarice was a devoted mother and grandmother; and her home was always open to friends. You could always see kids playing on the hill just outside her porch step. She was a member of Fron Lutheran Church. She was active in her church for many years participating in: WELCA, wedding circle, teaching Sunday school, serving at church functions and getting together with the church quilting group to work on quilting projects. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the MLH Auxiliary for many years.

She was an avid bowler. For many years she made a weekly trip to the Star Lanes for league bowling. (She loved to show off her trophy to the great grandkids). In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting. Over the years many of her grand kids and children would be seen sporting new sweaters, leggings or outfits. She was an excellent seamstress, making wedding dresses, formals and did tailoring work for several people as well. But one of her favorite pass times was making special quilts for her grandchildren for wedding gifts.

Clarice was known in the community for her wonderful donuts. She was often asked to make donuts for special community events and they were a special treat for family members as well. Homemade bread, lemon pie and pancakes were all her specialties.

Over the years Clarice put in a lot of hours painting, wall papering and babysitting for members of her family as well as for members of the Starbuck community. She was always willing to lend a helping hand where ever it was needed. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, cooking, baking and entertaining.

Clarice passed away on July 1, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having reached the age of 93.

Clarice is survived by six children: Marlys Jackson, Starbuck, MN, Richard (Pat), Parachute, CO, David (Bev), Prescott AZ, Ronald (Sharon), Inver Grove Heights, MN, Ann (Lyndon) Hagestuen, Pine City, MN, and Mark (June), Spokane, WA; one daughter-in-law, Carrol Breitkreutz, Belview, MN; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one sister, Olive Berens, Benson, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Louie, one son Dean, her parents, Hans and Nina, one son-in-law, DeWayne Jackson, three sisters, Lorraine Tibbets, Bernice Aaberg and Carol Ann Matthies, and four brothers, Leroy, Harold, Marvin and Donald Halvorson.
