Clinton August Smith, son of Robert and Emma (Block) Smith, was born October 31, 1924 in Morris, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Morris High School in 1942. At a young age he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Philippines. On February 21, 1946, he received an honorable discharge and returned to Morris. For a number of years he worked at Palmer's Clothing, before purchasing it from John Palmer. He owned and operated the store until 1984, when he retired. He has continued to live in Morris until the time of his death.
Clinton enjoyed wintering in Arizona and traveling to Germany and surrounding areas. He liked growing his roses, feeding his birds and playing cards. He especially enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.
Clinton died on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, having lived to reach the age of 81 years.
He is survived by two sisters: Doris Olson of Chokio and Janice Boller of Minneapolis; sister-in-law: Lois Smith of Morris; four nieces: Carol (David) Anderson of Chokio, Geraldine Hayden of Kenner, LA, Valerie (Jerry) Montville of Burnsville and Janalyn (Todd) Dennis of Minneapolis; one nephew: Scott (Veda) Boller of Dayton and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Lloyd Smith.
Rita Lambert will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
