Cora Bernice (Erlandson) Stoen, daughter of Edward and Minnie (Urness) Erlandson was born on February 8, 1912 in Starbuck, Minnesota, where she attended church and Sunday school at Minnewaska Church. Cora was baptized by Pastor Koefod and confirmed by Pastor Torgny Kleven, whom she felt was a wonderful minister. Cora attended school in Starbuck through the 8th grade. As a child she loved to help people, especially the elderly. She would carry wood and water for them whenever she could. She loved to go swimming in Lake Minnewaska, play baseball, horseshoes and every game you could think of with her friends. She also went fishing and hunting with her father as a child. Trapping gophers was something else she did throughout her life.

On October 8, 1932, she was united in marriage to Arnold Bernard Stoen. Following their marriage, they moved northwest of Starbuck, where they farmed, raised their children and were lifelong members of St. John's Lutheran Church. On the farm, Cora would help with the chores and working in the fields. This was during the depression and it was a drastic change for her after living in town. When Arnold got polio, Cora and her family continued farming, until their children grew up, married and went out on their own.

Cora became an Avon Lady, where she made many new friends and her Avon career became her greatest joy. She continued in this profession for over forty years and wind, rain, sleet nor snow, kept her home from the Avon route, or bingo nights. Each weekend she would go to her cottage on Lake Rachel to fish with friends and family. She always said how much she enjoyed her later years. Cora's greatest joy in life was her family, as she enjoyed her many trips to Florida at Christmas to spend the holidays with her daughter's families. She attended as many of her grandchildren's birthdays and other events as possible. The last six years of her life were spent at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, with very loving professional care.

Cora died on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. She lived to be 102 years and 8 months old
