Dale Anderson

Dale Byron Anderson was born July 8, 1923 in Farwell, Minnesota to A. P. and Alma (Wallen) Anderson. He was baptized on August 5, 1923 and confirmed on June 6, 1938. He graduated from Alexandria, Minnesota High School and continued his education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Dale enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, where he served in the Medical Corp. at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver. While in the Army he was a member of the 362nd Army Services Forces Band in Camp Abbott, Oregon and Fort Lewis, Washington. He was later assigned to the construction engineers and was sent overseas where he spent time in Saipan, Enivetok, Okinawa, and Ie Shima where he stayed for the duration of the war. Following an honorary discharge from the Army, Dale attended St. Olaf College with a degree in music. While attending St. Olaf, he played string base in the orchestra for four years and played the tuba for four years in the band. The following summer, he played in the orchestra in Yellowstone National Park and in the fall attended Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where he earned his degree in piano technology, which included piano tuning and repair. Dale moved to Alexandria, where he joined the Carlson Music Center in 1951 as a salesman and piano technician. On March 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to Shirley Selland at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They had one son, Todd born in 1959. The couple purchased the Starbuck Dairy Queen in 1956 and in 2006 they celebrated their 50th year of operation.

Dale died on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at his home in Alexandria, MN, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Anderson of Alexandria; one son: Todd (Parvin) Anderson of Starbuck and one granddaughter: Bahar Anderson of Euless, TX.

Pallbearers for the service are: Brett Selland, John Fraiser, John Blocker, Judd Selland Nathan Brecht and Ryan Sherman. Randy Morken will serve as organist for the service with Arne Pederson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
