Dale Johnson

April 16, 1931 — November 9, 2019

Herman, MN

Dale Wallace Johnson, son of Clarence and Florence (Christianson) Johnson, was born April 16, 1931 in Logan Township in Grant County, Minnesota. Dale grew up in Norcross, MN, where he attended grade school and later the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. Following his schooling, he returned to Norcross to farm with his brother: Jerome. While attending school in Morris, Dale met Ardell Sundt. They were united in marriage on April 15, 1950 in Morris. The couple continued to farm in Grant and Stevens County, before they settled into their farm east of Herman in 1961. This is where they raised their four daughters: Marcy, Nettie, Nancy and Pam. The couple “retired” from farming in 1993, but Dale continued to be very active on the farm until the age of 87. In November of 1996, Dale was united in marriage to Connie Sheets in which he gained one son and two more daughters. The couple enjoyed 23 years of marriage, wintering in Arizona and traveling.

Dale loved life.  He loved his wife, we often heard “I love you – I love you more.” He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many times he expressed his pride talking about their achievements. Dale loved people, he loved to visit. He especially enjoyed a close friendship with Dave Wing in Arizona. Lastly but not least, he loved farming, every aspect of farming but his favorite was planting and picking corn. Dale loved old tractors. He participated in many antique tractor plowing events, rode old tractors in parades, and entered many antique tractor pulls. His greatest pride was to know a young man loved farming as much as he did. Dale was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s/Bethel Lutheran Church. He served on many local boards and committees over the years.

Dale died on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Barrett Care Center in Barrett. He was 88 years old.

He is survived by: his wife, Connie Johnson of Herman; four daughters, Marcy (Dennis) Wilts of Herman, Nettie (Rick) Baker of Fergus Falls, Nancy (Sam) Haukos of Ashby and Pam (Mark) Severance of Herman; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn (Don) Bates of Fargo, ND; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ardell; grandson, Bruce Daniel Wilts; son-in-law, Barry Olhoft; two brothers; one sister and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
