Dale Tangen

August 13, 1953 — May 3, 2012

Memorial Services for Dale Tangen of Glenwood will be held Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Reverend Ginger Beck will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Dale Orvin Tangen, son of Francis and Ruth (Borud) Tangen, was born August 13, 1953 in Fosston, Minnesota. During his childhood, he lived in Winger, Minnesota, where he was confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and attended school. After his graduation from McIntosh High School in 1971, he began to work for the Soo Line Railroad all over Minnesota. On June 25, 1977, Dale was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Henney. The couple began their marriage in Fargo, North Dakota, where Dale worked as a carpenter, but shortly thereafter, the couple settled down in Houston, Texas. Dale took a job working at Henney Drapery. After his divorce, Dale moved to Glenwood, Minnesota, where he went back to working on the railroad. For the last six years of his life, Dale fought a long courageous battle with cancer through many surgeries and treatments, and even through a hard time, Dale still managed to build good relationships with those taking care of him. Dale will be dearly missed.

Dale was a big fan of fishing year round and found joy in watching the sun set on Lake Minnewaska. He also enjoyed golfing and became a very good golfer. He loved listening to rock music and had a special liking for the band Podipto from Bemidji. He really enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and was a fan of Television overall, especially "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Two And A Half Men." He was not a big movie person, but couldn't get enough of the original "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" film, which he knew word for word. He truly loved socializing with good friends and spending time with his family. He loved playing cards with his family and enjoyed keeping up with his nieces and nephew. He also found joy in taking his parents out every Friday for lunch.

Dale died on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home, Country Living, in Glenwood, having lived to reach the age of 58 years.

Dale is survived by his sisters, Cynthia L. Johnson of Gully and Beverly A. (Craig) Helgaas of Glenwood; brother, Ray D. (Marilyn) Tangen of Rock Springs, WY; nieces, Aleta Berhens, Sara (Grant) Maasjo, Krista Tangen and RaeLynn Tangen; nephew, Nick Helgaas; great-nephew, Gabe Maasjo; aunt, Marion Tangen of Chula Vista, CA and by all of his Houston, TX family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Ruth Tangen and brother-in-law, Darrell Johnson.
