Dan Flom

Daniel Paul Flom, son of Jerome and Joyce (Taallerud) Flom, was born on March 3, 1961 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where he started elementary school. In 1973, he moved with his family to Starbuck. Dan graduated from Starbuck High School in 1979. He went on to attend classes at the University of Minnesota - Crookston. Dan graduated with a degree in wildlife management in 1981. He continued his education at Bemidji State University. Since the early 1980's, Dan has been employed as a baker, most recently at Lucan's Super Market in Bemidji. Dan's true passion has always involved wildlife and hunting. He was a hunting guide for McCullom's Hunting Preserve in BeJou, MN. He raised and sold puppies, mainly Labradors and Springer Spaniels. He showed his dogs in competition and had several winners. Dan also trained hunting dogs and even raised cougars for a time. He was an avid hunter. His favorite hunts were pheasant, deer and bear. Dan was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasant's Forever, Mississippi Headwaters Retriever Club. He was also a life member of the Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club and the Red Pine Gun Dogs.



Dan died on Monday, September 4, 2006 at his home near Bejou, Minnesota in Mahnomen County at the age of 45.



He is survived by his mother: Joyce Flom of Starbuck; brothers: Tim (Deanne) Flom of Isle and Peter (Heidi) Flom of Starbuck; sisters: Joy (Kelton) Carlson of Farmington and Carol (Brian) Sutton of Starbuck; six nieces: Reanna Flom, Kaylee Flom, Holly Flom, Madeline Flom, Eleigh Flom and Sara (Mike) Schmidt; five nephews: Nathan Sutton, Nicholas Sutton, Nolan Sutton, Brandon Flom and John Carlson; one great nephew: Gavin Oliveras; two great nieces: Jayda Schmidt and Izabell Joy Schmidt; aunts, uncles, cousins, many special friends and his beloved ten dogs and one cat. He was preceded in death by his father: Jerome and his grandparents.



Pallbearers for the service are: Paul Ross, Derek Olson, David Grant, Mark Flom, Nathan Sutton and Johnathan Carlson. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service with Joy Smith, Peter and Heidi Flom providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
