Funeral services for Daniel L. Dosdall of Elk Point, SD, formerly of the Cyrus and Hancock, MN area, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris with Reverend Richard Fitzer officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Scandia West Cemetery, rural Cyrus.
Daniel Lane Dosdall, son of Edward “Ted” and Phyllis (Brandt) Dosdall, was born June 28, 1941 in Morris, Minnesota. Dan grew up in rural Hancock, Minnesota and attended grade school and high school in Cyrus, Minnesota. He went on to receive a BA degree from Huron College in Huron, SD in 1963. In 1962, Dan married Ann Pederson. Dan taught history and physical education classes, and coached all sports at Milan, MN, White Lake, SD and New Underwood, SD, until 1969, when he went to work for State Farm Insurance, as a claim representative. He worked first in the Sioux Falls, SD area and later moved to Cottonwood, MN, where Dan continued to work for State Farm and he and Ann raised their three children, Melanie, Matthew and Justin.
Dan later worked at many jobs involving driving large trucks and heavy equipment. He worked for many trucking companies and eventually became an owner/operator of his own truck. In 2001, Dan moved to Texas and continued to work until 2013, when he moved back to South Dakota.
Dan spent many years riding and enjoying motorcycles. He was an active member with the Ol Timer’s Motorcycle Club and had a great love of his bikes. He attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for many years.
Dan died on December 31, 2024 at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City, Iowa. He was 83 years old.
Dan is survived by his two sons: Matthew (Sarah) Dosdall of Elk Point, SD and Justin (Monique) Dosdall of Stillwater; one daughter: Melanie (Mark) Freiermuth of New Brighton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: David Dosdall of Pottsville, TX and John (Diane) Dosdall of Hancock; one sister: Carol (Doug) Dokken of Richfield and many nieces, nephew and cousins. He was preceded in death by his firstborn son, Nathan and his parents.
